Actual Mother’s Day

11/05/2025

I absolutely love a sleep-in (and sleeping in general). Obviously, because it was Mother’s Day, I was not to be blessed with such fortune. Instead, the beloved children woke me up asking what I wanted for a breakfast. I said, “I’d love a hug and someone to say ‘Happy Mother’s Day’.” Moses said, “That’s not what I asked you. What do you want for breakfast? That is what you do on Mother’s Day”. We’re off to a cracking start.

I lay in bed and I could hear them bickering. Then they brought out a cake in a box (at least I assumed it was a cake) and when they arrived at the bed, they announced they couldn’t show me until later. So they took it back. They then discussed the card. Sindy said she didn’t know where it was. Moses yelled at her.

We moved on and I provided some motherly reassurance that it would be somewhere in the house and we would find it later together. Happy with that, they went on to dutifully make breakfast. I received scrambled eggs with a mountain of rosemary from the garden sprinkled on top. (When they’re cooking fancy, they use fresh herbs, of which the only herb we have is a rosemary bush). I liked the effort though.

The rest of the day went in a similar manner. Lots of yelling and bickering. Me feeling grumpy. We did some tidying. They found the card (which included a Yo-Chi voucher). We had the cake, which I must admit was DELICOUS and is from one of my favourite bakeries called Chu and just I LOVE. So I had to text their dad and say thank you (because I’m not always a horrible person). So yeah, Happy Mothers Day.

We did go to Yo-Chi, which is the first time I’ve been. It was basically frozen ice cream and lots of toppings. I quite like it. And I’m sure healthier than regular ice cream so I probably lost some weight at the same time.

Weirdly, at bed time, I felt guilty as I hadn’t done anything for my own mother who is in England. English Mother’s Day is on a different day of the year so I always forget and tell her that I’ll do the Australia one (but then I don’t). So maybe this is Karma.

This is the beautiful cake. They did add candles and sing ‘Happy Mother’s Day’ in the tune of ‘Happy Birthday’ which was a nice touch.

Also – Sindy made a thing about me at school and our family. The one thing she wrote about me was that I love to play ‘Township’. Which is crazy because I’ve NEVER played Township but now that’s what everyone thinks. Sigh.
